Commonly Asked Questions The nitty gritty

Where are you located?

We are located in the heart of Tacoma - a mile from downtown and just up the hill from Wright Park. Your appointments take place in a dedicated clinic space that is a part of Dawn’s home. The clinic entrance is located just inside of the gate at the end of the driveway. You’ll be invited into a cozy waiting room with comfy furniture, a lending library of pregnancy, birth and newborn books, and walls displaying pictures of our families and their beautiful new babies.

Can we bring family with us to appointments?

Yes! You are more than welcome to bring whomever you choose to your appointments. We have a toy box full of toys and a shelf of books for your children, and we enjoy helping them participate.

What does prenatal care with Dawn and Emily look like?

We see you here at the office once every four weeks until the thirtieth week of your pregnancy. At thirty weeks, we schedule an appointment every two weeks until the thirty-sixth week. The thirty-sixth week appointment takes place in your home. After that, we schedule an office visit every week until the baby is born. Every prenatal appointment is scheduled for forty-five minutes, to allow plenty of time to hear your questions, collect any labs, and get to know each other.

What about postpartum care?

Postpartum care can vary greatly between providers. We come back to your home twenty-four hours after your birth, and then see you at the clinic with the baby at one week, three weeks, and six weeks postpartum. We are licensed to care for your baby for the first two weeks and provide all of the recommended newborn testing and screening options, so there is no need to rush off to other appointments with your baby. Our goal is for you to stay in your jammies that whole first week!

Are midwives and homebirth covered by insurance?

We are contracted/in network with most major insurance companies including Premera, Group Health, Blue Cross, and many more. We also accept Medicaid, Apple Health plans, and health share organizations. We have a biller who is super nice, easy to talk to, and always willing to answer any questions you may have.
